  • i need suggestions..

    please?

i just received a jury summons in the mail today.. and i really do not want to go….

there are a few options they listed to be excused.. but honestly, i don’t qualify for any of them….. i could get a letter from my employer but i don’t think they will do it. anyone have any ideas?? please? someone told me to check the ‘other’ box.. and say it’s against my religion? i’ve never been summoned before and could use any suggestions as to what excuse i should provide….. if i were to say that it is against my religion.. which religion and why?

    thanks in advance.

  • Even if you dodge the summons this time, it’s not gonna stop the system from sending you future summons. I got 3 summons in a row a few years back but haven’t gotten one since. It’s luck of the draw.

You could delay it, by stating hardship through school but that’s only for 6 months. I got lucky- called the phone number the next day and found out I was excused. One time I made it as far as the courtroom- but they managed to find their 12 before I was interviewed.

  • Say that you’re a racist and would make biased decisions =P

  • I’ve dodged one recently…I just stated on the back of the letter that I’m self employed and it would cause tremendous financial difficulty should I miss a day. Trust me, they are not going to ask you for proof. BTW, these days selling shit online can be considered “self employed”. Just in case.

  • are you a uni student? because then you can get deffered.

  • have multiple earrings and tattoos and dress like a slob.. thats supposed to help you get out as well.

  • wait when is it? if its around sept 18-20 you can say its eid (a religious holiday)

  • in regards to your recent post I’ll answer =P my answer was I work at a law firm, and have many years of legal experience, but I doubted that woulda worked for you, or you would have thought of that already… So now you got an answer, albeit useless.

  • Maybe you should consider why it is you really don’t want to go. To serve as a juror in the court system is one of the highest expressions of democratic responsibilities citizens have.

  • Anything we say can and will be used against us in court. So i don’t think you’re going to get anyone sending you advice that has a paper trail. And if you do, they probably aren’t very bright and their advice is suspect.

  • Maybe you should go ahead and go (odds are they’ll probably eventually let you leave anyway… Maybe?)

  • Uhm how about either suck it up and go and be honest, or call in or whatever, or just ignore it and take any lumps that might or might not roll your way.

  • I agree with JMaWasHere, the judges are aware of the tactics people use to avoid jury duty. They’ll simply send them to the criminal cases that lasts for months and months, puhahaha.

The tactic I’ve used in the past… they’ve always sent the summons to my parents’ place, and I don’t live there anymore. They send the letter back writing that I don’t live there anymore, and I don’t have to show up :) .

  • I usually roll the dice and just not go. I can always claim that my mailing address has moved which it has after years of apartment hoping.

But i think the ‘right’ thing to do is just to answer their questionnaire and tell them that you have no confidence in the justice system and that you will vote not guilty despite any presentation of evidence.

  • I viewed this, but know nothing about jury duty so I didn’t chime in with anything.

  • check “other” and tell them you’re too fat to fit in court.

  • If you use the religion excuse, they could possibly ask you to prove it.  I say, just do it…it’s your civil duty and who knows?  Maybe you’ll get on a huge case and you can write a book and millions on it later.
